The Panel will feature Renata Leitão (Cornell University, USA), Juan Montalván (Lancaster University, UK), and Martín Tironi (Design UC, Chile). Leitão will present the paper “Living Well in the Amazon: Strengthening Youth Aspirations in the Chico Mendes RESEX,” exploring how design can empower communities to develop and materialize their own visions of sustainable futures. Montalván, on the other hand, will discuss the concept of Interplanetary Design, exploring how design can contribute to generating new ways of inhabiting and relating to our environment. Finally, Tironi will share coordinates and exploratory questions aimed at fostering collective reflection on the notion of PlanetaryDesign.
To concretely reflect on the Panel’s discussions, we will conduct a Workshop. Its objective is to explore the networks of interdependence between humans and more-than-humans that emerge in design processes. By narrating our interdependencies, we seek to stimulate a debate on how to design to reconnect with the vast networks that sustain life in all ecosystems. Through these narrative experiments, we will connect objects and vitalities, places and affectivities, aiming to situate the notion of PlanetaryDesign within specific territories and times.
